Why fencing

A thinking sport at speed

Every bout is a fast argument: read the opponent, choose, move. Children learn to adapt under pressure and to think a step ahead.

Character, not just fitness

Fencing asks for discipline, independence and resilience. A child learns to handle winning and losing, and to keep going when it gets hard.

It can go far

Fencing is an NCAA-recognized college sport, and fencers here follow the path from a first class to local, regional and national tournaments.

Questions parents ask

Is fencing safe for kids?

Every fencer trains in full protective equipment, making safety an essential part of every practice. A complete set of fencing gear is included free of charge for the first month, and then $40 a month to rent.

What age can my child start?

From age 4. Four to six year olds have their own Saturday morning class; 7 to 11 and 12 to 18 train on weekday evenings. Adults can start any time in the Wednesday evening class.

Can I watch?

Yes, you are welcome to watch the free first class. After that, classes are for the fencers only.

What happens after the free class?

You decide. If you want to continue, you sign the agreement and pay the membership at your next class. There is nothing to pay for the free class; the only paper is the registration and waiver form you sign at the class.

Do we need equipment?

No. Mask, jacket, glove and blade are lent to you for the free class and stay free for your whole first month. Bring sneakers, athletic clothes, a towel and a water bottle. After the first month, rent the kit for $40 a month or bring your own.
