An after-school sport works when it fits the family's week: a start time after school and homework, an end time before bed, and one place to drive to. Our children's fencing classes in Northwest Austin start at 6:00 or 6:30 PM on weekdays and end by 7:30 or 8:30 PM, depending on the age group, and the youngest, 4 to 6, come on Saturday morning at 9:00. Adults fence on Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:15 PM. The salle is at 13581 Pond Springs Rd, Suite 308, there is parking, and the first class is free.
When each age group trains
| Ages | When |
|---|---|
| 4–6 | Saturday, 9:00–10:00 AM |
| 7–11 | Monday and Wednesday, 6:00–7:30 PM |
| 12–18 | Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 6:30–8:30 PM |
| 19+ | Wednesday, 8:00–9:15 PM |
Fencers aged 7 to 18 who want to compete can join Elite, four times a week. The club is open Monday to Friday from 3 to 9 PM and on Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and closed on Sunday; the Wednesday adult class ends at 9:15 PM.
Fitting it around school and homework
- A 6:00 PM start leaves the afternoon. On a weekday there is time after school for a snack and homework before the class.
- Pick the days that are free. Children aged 7 to 11 train on Monday and Wednesday, and teens on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Children of 7 to 11 can come once or twice a week, and teens up to three times, so you choose the evenings that fit around other activities.
- Plan the evening after. Teen classes end at 8:30 PM, so dinner and the rest of the homework come after, or before.
- Saturday morning for the youngest. The 4 to 6 class is on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, with no school-night rush at all.
- What to bring. For the first class: sneakers, athletic clothes, a towel and a water bottle. We lend the fencing kit.
The federal Physical Activity Guidelines advise 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous activity every day for children and teens aged 6 to 17 (Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, 2nd edition, 2018, read 2026-10-22). One or two evening classes a week are part of that, not all of it.
Two children, or a parent too
On Wednesday, the 7 to 11 group trains from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and the adult class from 8:00 to 9:15 PM, so a parent and a child of 7 to 11 can both fence on the same evening. A child of 7 to 11 and a teen train on different evenings.
Adults aged 19 and over train on Wednesday evenings; starting fencing as an adult has more. Which group is right for my child? goes through each group.

What it costs
The first class is free, and so is the kit for the whole first month; after that it is $40 a month to rent, or your own. Monthly prices depend on the group and how often your child comes, from $120 a month, and every member pays a $500 annual membership on top. How much fencing costs in Austin has every price in one table.
In the summer and during the day
In June and August the club runs one-week summer fencing camps, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM, for ages 6 to 18. Homeschool families can join the evening groups or book daytime private lessons; fencing for homeschool families explains both.
